The illustrations on pages 8 and 9 seem to be connected to each other. Both of them are accompanied by a small poem interpreting their content. The first picture shows a woman attached to a pillar, while aman is whipping her. The crown on the head of the woman could indicate that the woman personifies Imperial Russia after the February revolution,* while the man seems to be the personification of all the revolutionists who overthrew the Empire.
