Silkworm

The man in the illustration is Fyodor Timoshkin, a member of Russian administration in Georgia.

A poem under the illustration describes him as “a true Russian silkworm and a ‘majestic’ deputy, as clever and sensible as a goose, (who) has spread its ‘net’ of mansions all over Georgia. Just like a silkworm, he consumes everything in his path, but has given nothing in return”. Every line of the verse is mocking him - “to this day he’s dripping in the sweat of labour, and needless to say, he gets a salary from the treasury for his hard work .”
