Gurian Wedding

The illustration, along with the accompanying poem, depicts the “new wedding style” in Guria, a region of Georgia. According to the author, the region hasn’t seen anything quite like it before - bailiffs, guards, cossacks - everyone with at least some kind of power would crash the weddings, feast, and apparently start brawling after getting drunk. The poem hints that sometimes there have been killings too. However:

Who is right and who is wrong

Impossible to tell in this throng.

The fact that remains above all else:

Geese and turkeys gotta go!”
